José Eusebio Caro (1817-1853) – Poet, writer, journalist and politician.
  
A neoclassical romantic poet, Caro's most important works were published after his death. His works include Epistolarium and Philosophical Writings.
He was born in Ocaña.


Enrique Pardo
"Luis Tablanca"
(1883-1965) – Novelist, poet and short-story writer.
  
Co-founder of Cromos and El Gráfico magazines, Pardo's short stories are well known throughout the country. His most important work, A Defeat Without Battle, is a criticism of the administrative and fiscal disorder of his time. He was born in El Carmen.


Euquerio Amaya "Adolfo Milanés"
(1883-1931) – Poet, chronicler and journalist.
After co-founding the literary newspaper Espigas in 1904, Amaya went on to establish the political newspaper Ideas. Much of his writing is full of deep emotion including his first book of poetry, Curves and Straights, which was published in 1830. A year after his death his book of prose Ocaña Inside was published. The poet was born in Ocaña.

Marco Aurelio Carvajalino "Marco A.
Carvajalino"
(1896-1966) – Historian, poet and academic.

  
An outstanding member of the Centre of History of Ocaña, some of Carvajalino's poems can be found in Poetic Anthologies of Ocaña as well as in his book, Poetry. He was born in Ocaña.


Ana María Vega "Alma Luz"
(1897-1991) – Writer, painter.
The writer was the director of Cúcuta and Germinal magazines.
Her works include Hidden Source, Arch of Triumph and Song to Venezuela.
She was born in Cúcuta.


        



Luis Eduardo Páez (1906-1950) – Journalist, historian poet and academic.

  
A prominent historian, essayist and art critic, Páez was a member of the Colombian Academy of History.
His works include Historia de las medidas agrarias antiguas, La fundación de Ocaña, Estudios históricos sobre Pamplona y Ocaña and others.
Considered one of the best Nortesantandereanos writers, the library in his hometown of Ocaña was named in his honour.

Jorge Gaitán (1924-1962) – Writer and poet.

  
A poet who was also well known as a journalist, playwright, short-story write, essayist and translator,
Gaitán also co-founded Mito (Myth) Magazine in 1954. His poems can be found in his books Insistence on Sadness, Presence of the Man, Amazement, and Lovers. He also authored the essay The Libertine and the Revolution. He was born in Pamplona.

Eduardo Cote
(1928-1964) – Writer and poet.
This writers best known works are Preparation for Death, The Dreams, Diary of Alto San Juan and Atrato, The Everyday Life and Estoraques.
In 1952 Cote Lamus won the International Prize for Literatura with his book Salvation of Memory. The poet was born in Cúcuta, but spent his childhood and adolescence in Pamplona.

Luis Eduardo Páez – Writer, journalist, poet and academic.

  
A member of the Academy of History of Ocaña and the Academy of History of Norte de Santander, Páez has also worked as a reporter and chronicler for newspapers and magazines.
He was awarded the 'Enrique Pardo Farelo Medal of Merit by the Municipality of El Carmen in recognition of his cultural work.
Some of his books include Rafael Contreras Navarro and the Ocañera Music History, History of Ocañera Literature, and Voices and Silences. He was born in Ocaña in 1950.
