Floralba Uribe Marín (1943-2005) – Writer.
A strong defender of women's rights, this author was also the vice-president of the National Writers Association, a lecturer, a publisher, and an editor.
Her first novel, The Story of Little Nubia and Her Mercenary Virginity, was published in 1979. Among her many works one can also find the essay The Women in The Works of Garcia Márquez, as well as her book of poetry, Erotic, published in 1966.
She was born in Leticia.

Alejandro Cueva Ramírez – Writer.
Having earned a degree in Education Sciences from the Pedagogical University of Bogota, Cueva is currently a professor of literature and Spanish, in Leticia.
His book Liborio 'Leticiano' Guzmán describes the life of the famous soccer player. Cueva Ramírez has contributed much to the artistic and cultural development of Amazonas and collaborates with the El Bugeo Colorado Foundation”.
He was born in Leticia in 1950.

Norberto Walnes Muñoz Agga
– Poet, playwright and short-story writer.
Of his many theatrical scripts his best known include Los Sueños de Clara, Los Desvaríos de Juan and El Aborto de Géminis.
He is known as “The Poet of El Encanto” where he was born in 1974.



Artists

Reinerio Arirama Icomene – Wood sculptor.
An admirable native artisan, Reinerio Arirama's works in ‘palo sangre' (a highly valued wood) depict dolphins, birds, and other objects of aboriginal culture.
He has had exhibitions throughout the country and has displayed his work at the “Expoartesanías” in Bogotá.
He was born in the village of Macedonia in 1960.



Musicians, Composers and Singers

Alfonso Dávila Riveros – Musician.
An outstanding composer and arranger, Dávila Riveros is also a professor of harmony and musical composition.
He has been the director of the Hebrew School Instrumental Group, the National Pedagogical Institute, the Luis A. Calvo Academy, as well as an advisor for distance education.
He is the author of Seaquake, Melo-Rhythmic Explorations, Kurumi, and Amazon Images.
Dávila Riveros has received the diploma of honour from the Festival of Amazonas Popular Music, was awarded the Order of the Victoria Regia (Great Silver Cross and Great Gold Cross), and also won the SAYCO Order of Merit.
He was born in 1953, in Leticia.

Armando Londoño Franco – Composer and singer.
His composition La Otra Colombia won this musician the Amazonas Culture Prize. He also wrote Plegaria Amazonense, Añoranzas, and Vuelve.
He has recorded with the Civil Service Welfare and with the musical group “Amazonas”.
He was born in Leticia in 1954.

Hugo Erazo Ferreira – Composer and guitarist.
The great guitarist Erazo Ferreira has been honoured with numerous recognitions including a scholarship by the Department of Culture for his instrumental pasillo Laura Maria.
His best-known album is the anthology Esto se Compone Maestro. He was born in Leticia in 1958.

Pedro Bernal Méndez
– Composer and singer.
Known as “The golden voice of Amazonas”, Bernal Méndez has participated in recordings, television productions and has represented his province in many musical competitions.
His song Mariquinha is his most renowned composition. He was born in Leticia in 1960.

Group of Dance

Nuevas Estampas
Creator of the Nuevas Estampas Dance Group, Luz Elena Vásquez has distinguished herself for her efforts to defend and preserve the native culture of Amazonas.
The dance group, started in 1991, has traveled throughout Colombia with the Colombian Forces and has been the guest of honour at several music and dance festivals.
The group's repertoire includes Raíces, Tambores de Carnaval, Homenaje a la Mujer Leticiana, and Amazonía.

Paula Andrea Betancur Arroyave

She represented the Amazonas Department.
Born in Medellín in 1972.
She was as well First runner-up at the 1993 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.
