The writer and poet Candelario Obeso began to be known and appreciated sixty-six years after his death, when the body of his literary work was published in a collection called Popular Songs of My Land. Obeso was born in Mompós. Luis Carlos López -El Tuerto- (1879-1950) – Poet and journalist. Among the formidable works of this postmodernist poet are: To My Home town (poem that appears on the The Old Shoes monument in Cartagena), About My Small Village, Difficult Postures, To a Friend and Out-on-the-Street Annotations. He was born in Cartagena. Eduardo Lemaitre (1914–1994) – Historian, journalist, writer and politician. He was awarded with the Cross of Boyacá in 1982. Cont. Writers Germán Espinosa (1938-2007) – Writer, journalist and poet. A significant figure in Colombian literary circles, Germán Espinosa has achieved international recognition, mainly for his novels The Weaver of Crowns and The Entourages of the Devil. They have been translated into four languages. He also wrote The Sign of the Fish and Aitana, short-stories, essays, anthologies and poems. He received the degree Doctor Honoris Causa in Colombian Literature conferred by the University of Antioquia. In 2002, he was awarded the National Prize in Literature by the Books and Letters magazine. He was decorated with the "Gran Orden Ministerio de Cultura" in 2006. Espinosa was born in Cartagena. Businessmen Carlos Román Founder of the "Román beverage" in 1865. Today this is known as Kola Román. Artists Enrique Grau (1920-2004) – Painter and sculptor. He was one of Colombia's greatest painters and sculptors. His works are displayed prominently in several museums and galleries around the world. He had 80 individual exhibitions and more than 190 collective ones in different countries. He received three awards and many other honours. Grau is a Cartagenero born in Panama. Hernando Lemaitre (1924-1970) – Watercolor painter. The artist was a celebrated watercolor and landscape painter. Some of his paintings are exposed in the Museum of Modern Arts of Bogota and the "Banco Ganadero" gallery in Cartagena. He was born in Cartagena. Tito Lombana – Sculptor. Tito Lombana exhibited some of his sculptures in the Luis Angel Arango Library in 1960. His sculptures can be described as elegant and solemn.
