Artists (Arranged by date of birth) Ricardo Moros (1865- 1942) – Painter and writer. Moros was a realist and folk painter. He held the post of Director of the National Museum and of the School of Fine Arts of Bogota. Many of his works are hung at the National Museum. As a writer, he published works of great importance related to history and art. He was awarded several prizes. The artist was born in Nemocón. Miguel Sopó – Sculptor and ceramist. This outstanding artist has exhibited his work in many galleries and museums. Some of his sculptures may be found in Bogota, Tunja, Zipaquirá, and Cúcuta. He has been the recipient of numerous awards. The most recent being the Gold Medal for "Cultural Merit" from the Ministry of Culture of Colombia. He was born in Zipaquirá in 1918. Carlos Rojas (1923-1997) – Painter, sculptor and educator. Considered the master of abstract art in Colombia, Rojas was a professor of painting. His works were exhibited in several Colombian cities as well as other American and European countries. Rojas was awarded many prizes including First Prize in the Twentietht National Hall of Artists and a special prize at the Cime Contest in Geneva, Switzerland in 1971. He was born in Albán. Samuel Montealegre – Painter and draughtsman. His works have been exhibited and admired in more than 50 collective and individual exhibitions in Colombia, as well as many European and American countries. The paintings and drawings of this renowned painter are found in private collections in Bogota, Caracas, Barcelona, Paris, and New York. Montealegre was born in Girardot in 1940. Actors (In Spanish) Musicians, Composers and Singers Alberto Urdaneta (1895-1953) – Musician. A great composer and interpreter of Colombian folk music, Urdaneta's best-known musical composition is the Guabina Chiuinquireña . He was born in Ubaté. Jorge Olaya (1916-1995) – Composer. Olaya was a composer of folk and popular music. He was the manager of the National Cooperative of Musicians, the SAYCO, and the Society of Authors and Composers of Colombia. He was born in Tocaima. Matilde Díaz (1924 -2002) – Singer. This great interpreter of folkloric and popular music was the main voice in the orchestra of Lucho Bermúdez. One of the largest reverences she ever received was in 1992 while she was celebrating 50 years of artistic life. She was born in San Bernardo (Cundinamarca) but grew up in Icononzo (Tolima). Charlie Zaa (Carlos Alberto Sánchez) – Singer. A well-known singer and arranger of boleros and ballads, Sánchez received the " Revelation of the Year and the Best Music Record of the Year " prize from the Latin Billboard Awards. In 1998, he received "The Tropical Music, Male Artist of the Year " prize. His new album is called Sueña, sueña. He was born in Girardot in 1974. |
Duets Garzón y Collazos The first and most well-known Colombian folkloric music duet, formed by Darío Garzón and Eduardo Collazos, arose in 1938 and concluded in 1976 with of the death of Eduardo Collazos. Efraín Forero -El Zipa- (1934-2022) – Cyclist. Forero was the first champion of the Tour of Colombia. He was born in Zipaquirá. Luis Alberto Herrera (Lucho Herrera) – Cyclist. He has been a four-time champion of the Tour of Colombia and champion of the Dauphiné Libere in France. Herrera was born in Fusagasugá in 1961. Fabio Duarte – Cyclist. World Champion in men's under-23 race at the cycling world road championships. The cyclist from Cundinamarca reached his greatest triumph in the city of Varnese (Italy) in September of 2008. Duarte was twice the winner at the Junior Cycling Tour Championship in Colombia . He has received many bronze and silver medals in national and international competitions. He was born in Facatativá (Cundinamarca) in 1987. Egan Bernal – Cyclist Bernal is the first Colombian cyclist to win the famous Tour. The young cyclist started riding a bicycle at age five and at nine, he won his first prize. He then won several prizes and today, July 27, 2019 , he received the biggest prize in the cycling world: the Tour de France. Egan was born in Zipaquirá in 1997. "Miss Colombia" Beauty Queen
