(Arranged by date of birth) Luis Eduardo Vieco Ortiz (1882-1955) Painter and illustrator. Vieco was a great painter and an excellent illustrator. Some critics consider him to be the pioneer of urban landscape painting. He was the founder of the Decorator Artist Society and the National Art Gallery, as well as director of the School of Painting at the Institute of Fine Arts in Medellín. He was born in Medellín in 1882. Pedro Nel Gómez Agudelo (1899-1984) Muralist, painter, sculptor and architect. He was one of the most recognized muralists in Latin America and a well-known painter. He received many awards throughout his life. Among his murals are The Sena Mural and the murals of the university of Antioquia. His paintings are exhibited in the best museums in the country. He was born in Anorí in 1899. Fernando Botero – Painter and sculptor. The works of the world-famous Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero are found in some of the most important museums in the world such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, museums in Colombia, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Puerto Rico, Japan, Spain, Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, France and many others. He has received many awards and prizes. He was decorated with the Cross of Boyacá, and received the Andrés Bello Order from the Government of Venezuela, along with many other homages and prizes. Botero was born in Medellín in 1932. Actors (In Spanish) Musicians, Composers and Singers Carlos Viecco (1900-1979) Musician and composer. Folk music composer and avid promoter of Colombian culture. Some of his musical pieces include Hacia el calvario, Estando tan ausente, Retorno and the zarzuela Romance esclavo. He received The Order of Boyacá in 1971 along with many other awards and honours. He was born in Medellín in 1900. Jaime Echavarría (1923-2010) Musician, Chemical engineer, businessman and politician . Maestro Echavarría succeeded in all fields. As a musician, he showed his great talent in piano and through his compositions. His best -known pieces are: Serenata de amor, Yo nací para ti, Llévame de la mano y Maria Inés. Echavarría has received many prizes and honours. Cartagena declared him as an "adopted son of the city" because of his beautiful composition Noches de Cartagena. He was born in Medellín. Donato Ríos – Composer. Ríos's musical compositions were mainly religious in nature, many of which were for masses (Requiem, Easter Solemn Salves) and several others. He was also an influential composer in folkloric music; some of his pieces are Abismos de amor and Morenita clara, among others. Rios was born in Yarumal in 1928. Jaime Llano González (1932-2017) Musician and organist. Maestro Jaime Llano González is the most important organist in Colombian history. His brilliant performances of popular and folkloric music have given him national and international standing. In 1986, he was decorated by the National Government with the Cross of Boyacá. He received many other prizes and homages in recognition of his remarkable skills such as The Order of El Arriero, El Hacha de Antioquia, El Cacique Tundama, La Ñapanga de Oro, El Buho de Oro, the Aplauso a las Bellas Artes Prize, Ciudadano meritorio de Santander, Ciudadano meritorio del Valle del Cauca and 10 Gold Discs. Héctor Ochoa – Composer. Ochoa's famous song El Camino de la Vida was selected as the most beautiful song of Colombia in 1999. He has received many other prizes. Ochoa was born in Medellín in 1934. Teresita Gómez – Classical music pianist. In 1999 this pianist was granted the Exemplary Colombian Prize. In 2003, she was awarded the Letters and Arts Prize. She was born in Medellín in 1941. Juanes (Juan Esteban Aristizábal) – Musician, singer. As a composer and singer, he has achieved high international standing. He has been the recipient of many national and international prizes and honours. Juanes was decorated with the "Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters" Insignia in France in 2006. He was honoured with the first Humanitarian Award conferred by 'The Trust for the Americas ' and the Organization of American States, in 2008. The same year, he received 5 prizes during the Latin American Grammy Awards. He has been the winner of 12 Latin American Grammy Awards in all. In 2009, he won all the prizes at the Viña del Mar festival, and he received his first prize at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards 2009, in Los Angeles. His latest albums are Un Día Normal, Mi Sangre and La Vida es un Ratico. In 2017 he received the award for Best Album Pop / Rock and Best Engineering for Album at the Latin American Grammy Awards. He was born in Medellín in 1972. Andrés Orozco – Orchestra conductor. Maestro Orozco studied conducting in Vienna. He has been a conductor with different Austrian orchestras, In 2005 he made his debut with Grosses Orchester Graz recreation. After his brilliant performance he was appointed Principal Conductor of this orchestra for a tenure of three years. In 2007 he was appointed Chief Conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchestra Niederösterreich of Vienna. He will take up this position at the beginning of 2009 for a tenure of three years. The young Maestro has been invited to appear as Guest Conductor several times by the Symphony Orchestra of Colombia and by other national and international orchestras. In 2007, he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in its main hall. He has been honoured with prestigious awards such as the Official Cross of Isabel la Católica Order conferred by the King of Spain and the Gold Order from the Vienna University of Technoloy. Orozco was born in Medellín in 1977. Group of Dance It is one of the most prestigious groups of dance in Colombia. It has performed on hundreds of national and international stages, making known the rhythms and dances of the different regions of the country. This dance company has received important prizes such as the Gold Medal at the World Olympics of stylized folklore in France and the prize Ugo Re Capriata at the International Festival of folk dances in Italy. It was founded in Medellín in 1991. Duo Espinosa y Bedoya This duo was a great promoter of the folk music of Colombia. The members of the renowned duo were Eladio Espinosa from Bolívar (Ant) and Francisco Bedoya, who was born in La Ceja del Tambo. |
